The Totem Pole
In the Gothenburg car park, the Prestonpans Arts Festival erected a totem pole that depicts the history of Prestonpans and links to Chemainus, Canada. Chemainus was the first Muraltown, and the inspiration for the murals in Prestonpans. The red cedar tree used to create the totem pole was imported from Chemainus.
First nation carver Xwalacktun guided the creation of the totem pole with help from Kenny Grieve, Tom Ewing, a team of local artists, and local school children. The Totem Pole was unveiled at the 6th Global Murals Conference held in Prestonpans in 2006.
