Witches Gate
In the Prestoungrange Gothenburg’s gardens, there stands a memorial to the 81 men and women from Prestonpans accused of witchcraft. Tom Ewing’s Witches Gate depicts some of the main characters in the Witch Hunts of the 16thcentury. These people are Mary Queen of Scots, who signed the Scottish Witchcraft Act of 1563; John Knox, Scotland’s most infamous reformation minister; Geilis Duncan, a servant accused of witchcraft; and King James VI, who took a personal interest in witchcraft investigations.
