Prestongrange Heritage Centre
David Spence worked tirelessly to establish the Prestongrange Heritage Centre at the former Prestongrange Colliery. He was a retired coal industry manager and mining historian who believed in the preservation of industrial sites as educational facilities.
Closed until April 2026, the Heritage Centre boasts an exhibition hall, a cafe and a visitor centre. Visitors can wander around the site to view the various buildings and machines, including the massive Cornish beam engine that pumped water from the mine for more than 50 years.
This beam engine is immortalised in the mural that stands on the site. Jim Corsiter created the mural.
